Retro Atlanta goes back to school this week, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a bummer! There’s a whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on, with some old-time vintage hullaballoo and foot stompin’ shenanigans! We’ve got classic films, ‘60s and ’70-style punk rock, all the ‘billy you could want and a hodgepodge of old-school blues, soul, funk and rock n roll! So, get off that couch and live la vida Retro!

Monday, August 4

Come on down kiddies, because it’s your last chance this summer to catch the vintage cinema extravaganza at Pallookaville, that is The Polka Dotted Elephant Summer Cinema Club with screenings of a DOGVILLE SHORT episode (1930), LANCELOT LINK episode (1970) and featuring Brad Bird’s animated homage to vintage sci-fi, THE IRON GIANT (1999)! Or get retro at The Plaza Theater as they screen MGM’s last musical of the ‘50s, Stanley Donen’s, SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS (1954) and Howard Hawks’ Bogart classic, TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT (1944)!  Get your fill of some roots and soul at Blind Willie’s with Brandon Reeves! Every first and third Mondays are Big Band Nights at Café 290, featuring Joe Gransden and his amazing 16-piece orchestra playing jazz and swing standards in the tradition of The Glen Miller Orchestra and other legendary groups.  Second and fourth Mondays are Bumpin the Mango, ‘The groove that makes you want to move!’

Every first Wednesday is the Graveyard Tavern’s Graveyard Swing Night, featuring the swingin’ jazz and boogie-woogie sounds of the Savoy Kings!
